Contractor Marketing Agency

We market for roofers, remodelers and home improvement contractors across Chicago and 17 states — websites, search, ads, reviews and the lead response that makes the rest of it worth paying for.

Most contractors we meet are not failing at marketing. They are paying for one piece of it and wondering why the phone is quiet. Ads pointed at a site that takes eight seconds to load. A rebuilt website with nothing driving traffic to it. Good map-pack rankings and a crew too busy on a roof to answer the calls those rankings produce.

Each piece gets blamed in turn, and each one is working about as well as it can on its own. What follows is how we run them together — and what each one is actually for.

Contractor websites that turn visitors into calls

A homeowner finds you at nine at night, on a phone, standing in a room with water coming through the ceiling. Your site takes eight seconds to load, the phone number is an image in the footer, and the quote form asks for eleven fields. They go back to the results and call the next company.

What we do about it

  • Custom build on a modern stack — pages load in under two seconds instead of six to eight
  • Tap-to-call in the header of every page, and a sticky call bar on mobile
  • A real page for every service you sell, not one page listing all of them
  • Service area pages for the towns you actually work in
  • Project galleries using your own photography, compressed so they do not slow the page down
  • Quote forms short enough that someone finishes them one-handed

Why it matters

Speed is a confirmed Google ranking signal, so a slow site loses twice: fewer people find you, and more of the ones who do leave before they see your number. For a trade where the first company to answer usually wins the job, that is the whole game.

Showing up when a homeowner searches

Nobody searches for your company name. They search "roof repair near me" or "siding contractor Naperville", and they call one of the three businesses in the map pack. If you are not there, you are invisible for the searches that turn into work.

What we do about it

  • Google Business Profile managed properly — services, hours, photos and Posts kept current
  • NAP consistency audited across directories, because conflicting listings suppress rankings
  • A genuinely distinct page per service area, with local detail rather than a swapped town name
  • Technical work first: speed, crawlability, schema, Core Web Vitals
  • Content aimed at what homeowners actually ask before they hire

Why it matters

Organic and map-pack rankings keep producing calls after you stop paying, which is the opposite of ads. They take months to build, which is exactly why the businesses that start are the ones still ranking three years later.

Reaching homeowners before they start searching

Search only reaches people already looking. The homeowner whose roof is fifteen years old is not searching yet — but after a hailstorm moves through their neighbourhood, they are about to, and whoever they have already heard of has an enormous head start.

What we do about it

  • Neighbourhood-level targeting around storm paths and recent job sites
  • Creative built from your own project photography, not stock images
  • Retargeting for people who visited a service page and did not call
  • Lead forms that feed straight into your pipeline rather than a spreadsheet

Why it matters

We are a Meta Business Partner, and for exterior trades this is the channel that creates demand rather than waiting for it. It pairs with search: Meta builds the familiarity, search captures the intent when it arrives.

Talk about Meta ads

Reviews decide which of the three gets the call

Three contractors appear in the map pack. One has 180 reviews at 4.8, one has 31, one has nine from four years ago. The homeowner does not read them all — they read the rating, glance at the most recent two, and call. Review count is often the single biggest difference between two otherwise identical companies.

What we do about it

  • Automated review requests by text and email, sent while the crew is still packing up
  • One-tap link straight to your review form — nobody goes looking for your listing
  • Monitoring across the platforms that matter for your trade
  • Every review answered by a person on our team, not a generated reply

Why it matters

Review volume and recency feed map-pack rankings as well as conversion, so this is one of the few things that improves both how often you appear and how often you get picked once you do.

Answering the calls the marketing produces

The most expensive failure in contractor marketing is not a bad campaign. It is a lead that came in, rang four times, and went to voicemail — because the crew was on a roof and the office closed at five. That lead was paid for twice: once to generate, once in the job that went elsewhere.

What we do about it

  • Alex, our AI receptionist, answers every call around the clock in a natural voice
  • Common questions handled, appointments booked straight into your calendar
  • Genuinely urgent calls escalated to a real person immediately
  • A website chatbot that qualifies and books rather than leaving a form nobody fills in
  • Full transcript and summary of every call delivered to your team

Why it matters

Storm weeks are when this pays for itself. Call volume multiplies overnight, and the companies that capture it are the ones where something answers on the second ring at eleven at night.

Who We Work With

Trades we market for.

The channels are the same. What changes is the timing, the audience and what the money follows.

Siding & Exteriors

Long consideration, high ticket, and a decision made on how the work looks.

Windows & Doors

Replacement cycles, rebates, and showroom traffic.

Painting

Seasonal, referral-heavy, and competing on trust more than price.

Restoration

Water, fire and storm damage — the most time-sensitive lead there is.

Why A&B

What makes us different for this trade.

We are in Chicagoland, not a call centre

Our office is at 1333 Burr Ridge Pkwy Ste 200-260, Burr Ridge, IL 60527. We can walk a job site, photograph the work and sit across a table from you. For a trade sold on trust and visible craftsmanship, photography of someone else's house is worse than no photography at all.

15+ years in this trade specifically

Not fifteen years of marketing in general. Fifteen years of roofing, siding, windows and remodeling, across 17 states — which is why we plan around storm season instead of being surprised by it.

We market the supply chain too

We work with the building supply distributors who sell to the trades as well as the contractors who buy from them. That means we understand both ends of the relationship, including manufacturer co-op funds most contractors never claim.

Something answers at eleven at night

Alex, our AI receptionist, answers every call around the clock and books straight into your calendar. The most expensive marketing failure is a paid lead that reached voicemail.

FAQs

Contractor marketing — questions we get asked

What does a contractor marketing agency actually do?

The useful ones do four things: make sure you appear when a homeowner searches, make sure the page they land on gets them to call, make sure something answers when they do, and make sure you can tell which of those is working. That means website, search and map rankings, paid ads, reviews and lead response run together. An agency that only sells you one of those is selling you a part of the answer and letting you discover the rest yourself.

How much should a contractor spend on marketing?

The number that matters is not a percentage of revenue, it is what a booked job costs you and whether that is less than the job is worth. A roofer who pays $90 for a lead that closes one in four at an $11,000 average ticket is doing well. The same $90 is terrible if the close rate is one in twenty. We would rather work that out with your numbers than quote you an industry percentage that ignores your margins.

How long before I see leads?

Google Ads and Local Services Ads can produce calls in days. SEO and map-pack rankings take months — Google Business Profile improvements often show within a few weeks, new service area pages two to four months, competitive head terms six to twelve. Most contractors run both for that reason: ads cover the gap while the rankings build, and the rankings reduce how much you depend on ads later.

Do you work with contractors outside Chicago?

Yes. Our office is in Burr Ridge and we work across the western suburbs and Chicago in person, but we serve clients in 17 states. Local matters most for in-person things — walking a job site, photographing real work — and for understanding a market. The rest travels fine.

What makes marketing for contractors different?

Three things. Demand is lumpy and often weather-driven, so a campaign that ignores a storm path is leaving money on the table. The buying window is short — a homeowner with an active leak is not comparing five companies over a fortnight. And the job usually goes to whoever answers first, which means lead response is part of the marketing rather than something that happens after it.

Do you handle storm response campaigns?

Yes, and the timing is the whole product. A storm response campaign is neighbourhood-level targeting around the actual damage path, launched within days rather than weeks, across ads, social and direct mail. The companies that win storm work are not the ones with the best creative, they are the ones who were in front of that neighbourhood first.

Will I own my website and my ad accounts?

Yes, all of it. The domain, the hosting, the code, the Google Ads account and the Google Business Profile stay in accounts you control. We have taken over too many clients who discovered their previous agency owned their ad account and their review history to think that is acceptable.

What if I already have a website I like?

Then we will not try to sell you a new one. We will test it — load time on a phone, whether a visitor can call in one tap, whether the service pages exist that you need to rank — and tell you what is worth fixing. Sometimes the honest answer is that the site is fine and the problem is that nothing is driving traffic to it.

Do you work with building supply distributors too?

We do, and it is one reason contractors end up working with us. We market for the distributors who supply the trades as well as the contractors themselves, which means we understand both ends of that relationship — including co-op advertising funds, which a lot of contractors never claim because the paperwork is tedious.

How do I find out what my marketing is worth fixing first?

Run our free assessment. It checks your site speed, your local search visibility, your reviews and your lead capture, and scores them. It takes a few minutes and you get the findings whether or not you ever speak to us — including the cases where the honest answer is that you do not need an agency yet.
